strange feeling of not being engaged when starting from a stop - manual 200

Hi ya'll, thanks for reading my message.

My '88 245 is a champ, and has exceeded my expectations in almost every way given the money I paid for her. I'm at about 140k and hope for many more.

However, I'm a bit worried about a strange feeling I note when I'm starting (from neutral to first gear): it seems like the gear just doesn't want to catch. There is a bit of bucking sometimes. The best way I can describe it would be to say that it feels disengaged. I don't note this issue in other gears. Perhaps the tranny is getting old? I usually rev the engine up to 2-3k to convince it to go and it does, but I'll be damned if the *feeling* hasn't changed in the last year.

I would be grateful for any of your thoughts. If it gets worse, and a tranny replacement is $1200, I'd still do it: I love that car!
