Is the Volvo a more reliable car than the Mercedes?

Let me provide my meager bona fides. I've had a 245 for 22 years and a 945 turbo for 6 years. I also owned an S Class Mercedes Benz for 6 years. The Volvo and the Benz are built to last but each seems to invoke a different idea of what it takes to 'last'. My Volvos are somewhat simple and easy to work on. My Benz was an engineering marvel and not at all friendly to the average mechanic. Addionally, the electronic parts (Bosch for both marques) are way more $$ for the Mercedes.

I've been a long time lurker on the Benz Forum and their troubles seem to dwarf what the bricksters experience. While I realize my anectdotal evidence might not be conclusive, I believe that the Volvo (certain vintages) are superior vehicles to the Mercedes.

BTW, I still pine for another 126 chassis Mercedes Benz.
