Actually, they were .... 700

After switching a Hydra wheel with the Kumho for a Hydra with a Toyo tire the ride is less jittery and remarkabley softer i.e. more compliant. The Toyo is a speed tire H like the Kumho but it has a rubber rating of 300 vs. 425 for the Kumho. The ride with the Toyo is softer- that is nicer for me. It doesn't crash-clunk over road irregularities. It feels dampened nicely. This must be the tires softer sidewall working with the suspension to better cushion the ride. I suppose the Kumho has harder rubber (longer lasting) and the assymetrical tread probably demands a tighter truer alignment and balance. That's my take anyway. When I think about the softwall DBX Yokohomas on my other Volvo, I get a cushioned dampened ride I really like- yet it has that light sprung and tight rebound I like. So it was probably the tire and wheel all along. I am, in conclusion, sold on the softer walled performance radials with softer rubber for a nice ride. I'll live with shorter tire lifespan. I'm changing the other front tire tonight. It doesn't completely eliminate the jitter in the steering wheel but it is definitely less noticable. The softer rubber just matches better to my Volvos- both with IPD antisways. Tires are both 215x55xR16.
