traction questions 200 1986

Ok brickheads....time for some taunts....I finally got the old girl stuck in the snow....after I talked so much smack on my friends in their 4x4 SUVs for getting stuck. I was slipping and sliding but making my way with a bit of the old Scandinavian-flick maneuvering.....think World Rally Championship in downtown Pittsburgh at 15-20mph....all was fine until I got too confident and tried to parallel park the old girl on a hill....successfully getting her stuck blocking a driveway....what a dope. so i thought that I would use the "cheater" chains that I keep in the trunk...these are the old ones from the 70's that don't wrap around the circumference of the tire, but lie across the tread and strap through the openings in the wheel...there are only 2 strands of chain on each chain, but up to 4 can be installed on each wheel.....well these have gotten my old truck out of 32 inches of snow once...(next to the H2 that had to be towed out a week later I might add)...well in another moment of genius...the chains were left in my closet at home....after a short walk to the local grocery store i returned with 20lbs of kitty litter.....got her out....tomorrow I am getting a real flat nosed shovel and keeping it in the trunk...I was thinking of airing down the tires(they are at
33psi), but I didn't know if that would help at all....I know it works in mud and
sand, but does that work for snow? this is the sort of slushy stuff that is about 4 inches deep on top of hard packed icy stuff that is about 4 inches deep....any thoughts?
