Recommended Parts for Scavenging - Longish Post 200

Greetings all,

I've been thinking about setting up a web site for selling Volvo parts. There is a sizeable quantity of dead Volvos available here in SoCal, and I've become aware of how difficult it can be to get parts in the 'rust zone'. What I'd like are suggestions for parts that are relatively high demand, difficult to find, easy to store and ship etc.

I don't currently have space for things like body parts, although it's not out of the question in the long run.

I'm well aware of things like gauges, virgo wheels, etc. So what else do people want?

This ends the short part************

For those with more interest I continue on...

I'm also considering some kind of request set-up. People could ask for things and I can try to get them; like a special request sort of thing. How to set it up and charge for it is a question I'm grappling with.

If anyone has some info on how to test for parts on-the-spot, that would be nice. I have a decent multimeter, and generally understand how it works, so I can use it, but how do I test things like an AMM? Any ideas on how to deal with that would be nice.

My goal/statement of ethics:

I'm currently a graduate student, and intend this as a way to offset the cost of working on my own cars/going to the junkyards (my version of relaxation). It's not so much intended for me to get rich, as to keep good Volvo parts in circulation for the faithful, while rewarding me for doing so - paying for dinner out here, a book there (if anyone has a used copy of "501 Latin Verbs", let me know - I need one!) while avoiding the pricing problems of Ebay.

I've actually had more success offering parts to Brickboarders than on Ebay, and frankly, I'm a little put off by the ridiculous prices that people ask for stuff there. If you are too, then let's be the change we want to see in the world.

Finally, I'd be curious to hear about anyone's experience on this sort of thing - you can post here if you like, or email me directly if you prefer.

Thanks for everyone's help/support.

Best,

Lanval
