feels like it's starving for gas in drive - what gives? 200 1991

Hi all,

I'm stumped on this one. First of all, I bought an 91 245 for my son. He turns 16 soon and this is our father/son project. So far, so good. The car has run well, but sometimes while in drive especially while accelerating the car runs rough, kind of like it is starving for gas. Even the tach will go down from 800 to 700 while in drive. The idle is as smooth as silk in park or neutral. I haven't changed out the fuel filter or replaced the cap, rotor, wires or plugs yet. I have those parts but just haven't gotten to it yet. Is this is a good place to start? Any other ideas about what else I should do? Thanks, George
