Front brakes and cruise control. I'm mystified 700 1988

I have a 740 wagon which I bought with only 200,000 miles on it. It had been looke after by various technicians and I'm trying to retore it to full operation. Some time ago I bought a front brake pad kit P/N 271706, but I could find no way of installing the springs that came with it. I then ordered the conversion springs from the Forum Archives. only to be told that they had been superseded by P/N9157717. These turned out to be the same ones as in the aformentioned kit. I still do not see any way of installing them. The brake pads are the ype with the two little lumps on the top with brass pins towards the lining side. On the same wagon I'm having trouble getting the cruise control to work I note that the vacuum pump has two connections but I've only got one spre hose in the engine bay. Can anyone enlighten me as to what to connect to the other connection? Also how can the actual pump be tested?
Regards Bruin
