Natural to Synthetic switch 700 1990

1990 744 Ti with 210 clicks on the OD. I was wondering what anyones experience is with switching from 10w40 to a synthetic (probably mobil 1).. I have had the car 40 thousand miles and have put in a new turbo, injectors, etc, etc, etc. I change the oil every 2,000 mi and it is thick and black and would like to give the engine as much life as possible. Does anyone have any ideas how to keep my oil cleaner between those 2,000 mi intervals??? Thanx
