Maybe frozen starter? 300 1990

The starter may be frozen if you've recently driven thru puddles, then let the car set out in freezing weather.

That's exactly what my daughter did a few days ago with her '93 240. Next day her symptoms were just like yours. After a couple of sunny days she tried it again and got a bit of noise from the starter. Tried again right away and it fired up.
