My theory, which is mine, is that all dinosaurs are thin at one end.....oh sorry, wrong skit.....
My theory is that all power in these engines is developed above 3000 RPM, and as most distributors have all the advance in by that point, what they do below 3k on the crank is less than important. A few degrees either way in the advance curve don't matter.
It's best to play with total advance and be done with it. I also believe the stability of the earlier two piece breaker points is poorer than the later single piece, and that the later condensors are also superior.
I weld the upper and lower swash plates together when I remove the vacuum retard feature, which also improves the plate stability at high RPM.
