240 Wagon Automatic Transmission - car will not back up 200 1986

Due to severe cold in NYC last week, the car was stuck in ice/snow. In trying to dislodge car I moved the auto shift quickly between reverse and forward. AAA pulled the car out of the ice. Drove it to a parking lot. When I returned the attendant said the car will not go into reverse. I poured some ATF into the engine. Car still won't go into reverse.

I have to have the car pushed out from its current place. I want to see if the car will drive forward.

If the car does drive forward:

1.) is it safe to drive about 50 miles to a Volvo dealer?
2.) will the transmission have to be replaced?
3.) is there any likelihood that the tranmission is OK and got stuck or frozen?

Probably time for me to kiss this baby goodbye. It's still a good car, about 170K miles. Unfortunately, lots of rust. But a good city car!

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
