Ah, yes, incorrect terminology. My gearhead lexicon is still developing.

I did not actualy measure the portion of the crank where the #2 pushrod was. It was, however, the only place on the crank that had one of the spacers you describe and it "looks" a tad smaller.

There's no perceptable damage to the crank itself. all is quite smooth and shiny, but I'll have it checked before I try to use it again.

I did disassemble the oil pump and found no evidence of fatigue physical damage or foreign bodies inside. Still no idea what happened there.

The valve tappets are a new design solid steel that do have some oil scrorching on them.
