Cleaning battery terminals 900 1994

Hi I'm about to clean my battery terminals and posts and I haven't done it before. When I disconnect the battery terminals do I have to disconnect the negative first? And how much baking soda to water do I use? (In metric please as I am in australia). My 940 has an alarm is it going to go off if I disconnect the terminals from the battery? Do I have to use a metal brush or can I use a scotchbrite? Thanks for reading my post any information is greatly appreciated.

Regards C Paag from Sydney.
