As sort of an addendum to what John Parker said: years ago I made up a box out of 2x8" dimensional lumber that fits snugly around the oil pan. Once you set the engine on that, it is easy to slide around or move on rollers. I singlehandedly transported several engines in my 245 with a sheet of 3/4" plywood in the cargo area and the 2x8 box tacked in place with a few sheetrock screws. If I have something overhead to hoist the engine up with, I put a sheet of plywood on saw horses of the right height, lift the engine onto that with a come-along, and then slide it into the station wagon. Rubbing the plywood with a candle helps. Once, when I had nothing to hoist the engine up with, I pulled it up a ramp into the SW, anchoring the come-along on a bar hooked under the front seat. It's much easier to move heavy object with your head than with your back. ;-)
