Is there a resistor pack? 200

It is an interesting thought, though. Would the motor current go through the speed switch, or would the speed switch control a series of relays?

No relays, just direct from the switch. My 1979 had the same set-up. When I lost the blower fotor, the Volvo replacement was the permanent magnet type which requires the resistor back. Multi-tap does not.

Bentley will likely not help, as it goes back only to 1983. See if you can get a Volvo Service Manual Wiring Diagrams for the 1981 240. It will show the circuitry of every sub-system on the car in pictorial form, plus have a complete schematic for the car. I have found these books invaluable. Call 1-800-23-VOLVO or go to www.volvotechinfo.com

If you must replace the motor, be sure to get complete instructions for the conversion. Mine required drilling a 5/8 inch hole in the bottom of the air chamber, and carving off some length from the three motor mount bosses. Look a long time, but worth it as we got the a/c back.

Good Luck,

Bob
