To track down the source of my stalling/misfiring/hesitation at low rpm problem, I swapped in a good air mass meter from wife's car, and mine worked great. So I know I need one. But I dont know if something else is causing the amm to fail. My choice is to order one tonight/tomorrow and do the easy install or wait til next week for a trusty but expensive mechanic to do full diagnostics and sell me the amm.

I've learned of one cause of amm failure -- hot air from the air box, thanks to faulty thermostat. My thermo does seem bad, so I've removed the end of the pipe at the exhaust manifold.

Finally (!) my question: Is there any other leading cause of amm failure that should make me hesitate to install a new one without the mechanic's diagnosis? Or should I go ahead and order it?

Thanks for Don for earlier help on this. I'll do whatever the first person tells me to do, unless the second person's advice is cheaper. Or something like that. Many thanks.
