Battery Chargers? What amperage is necessary for home use? Good brands?

I'm looking for advice on buying a battery charger... I probably don't need anything fancy, -- something to trickle charge a battery overnight, and maybe a fast charge option just in case. I'd like one with an ammeter. I saw a bunch in the price range $30-$70, and I'd prefer to stay within that range.

I spent some time researching them last night, and many of them come with a setting for jump starting a car (between 50 - 100 amps depending on the model). Do any of you find this feature useful? If so, is 50 amps enough to jump a car, or is a higher current necessary to effectively use it that way?

In looking at different brands, I see Associated, Vector, and Schumacher as the most common name brands. Any preferences there? I also see Sears Diehard, Black & Decker, and Chigago Electric (Harbor Freight) in the generic brand category...

Thanks for your input.
