This chump is stumped 200 1979

I got me a frikin’ poltergeist, help.
Ok, get this. I have a 79 244 which had an annoying cold start problem which I overcame today. Here were the symptoms. Flooding. Wow lots of gas. In the cylinders, and manifold, down my wrist to my elbow if I so much as touch a fitting. I had just changed the o-rings in my very leaky secondary fuel pump when the no-start symptom started. Pulled apart the entire FI. System and cleaned every-frikin-thing. Symptoms pointed to over pressure in the system but I have no fuel pressure gage to verify. Long story short (perhaps pun…keep reading). I as a last ditch effort decided to try starting the car with the pumps off to see if the car might at least stutter for a second. I pulled fuse 5 and 7 for the pre-pump and main, and yet the pumps would still run when the ignition was turned. Funny. I started pulling fuses until I got to 4 (heater fan) then the pumps stopped. Again…funny. Just for the heck-of-it I tried reinstalling 5 and 7 and the pumps didn’t run (normal as system is now pressurized, no?). When I turned the key the engine smoothly came to life and purred like a kitten. I let it run while I rolled for joy in the snow. And then started thinking why did pulling the fuse for the blower motor let the car start? I walked slowly back to the idling car. I carefully reached in and tried the fan switch…..with an eerie whir the fan came to life. I checked in my fist clenched with fear for the 16amp blower fuse…still there. While crossing myself I reached into the car turned off the ignition (stopped engine) and turned back to run and tried the blower again…no dice. The hair on the back of my neck is still standing on end as I write. How can this possibly be true?
A shiny new nickel to who ever can figure this one out.
