Bosch Main Fuel Pump 700 1987

I thought it somewhat amazing that the original fuel-pump lasted 351K miles on
my 87 745T! I can tell it is original since it had the undercoating on it.

It died on me 1 weeks ago and I was able to revive it several times by smacking the pump with a long wrench, It finally gave up the other day and I had a 'new' replacement pump and filter ready from the PNP. ($11!)

What is the significance of the black or green band around the pump? The original pump had a green band and the new one has a black band, they both have the same part number?

Thanks,
JJ
