Reattatching tailgate trim panel--what works 700

I have finally obtained an intact tailgate interior trim panel in the correct color for my car, but the four mounting holes at the top are pulled out, as is nearly always the case. Has anyone successfully improvised a way to secure the panel at the top, or should I just buy the kit of special clips from IPD? I would rather not drill holes in it and use sheet metal screws.
