No Overdrive 200 1988

SOunds like the light is being well behaved, so the relay and switch function are good. The relay could have burnt solder joints on the output side, or the wiring underneath could be really shot.

It's a single white wire, with an inline plug toward the rear of the trans. The wire crosses over the tailshaft of the trans as it exits the shifter box. If it's frayed or damaged anywhere, it must be repaired.

The connector is weird- try not to force it when snapping it apart. It'll break the cover.

Access is usually tight up over the driveshaft and shift linkage. Look for interference between shift linkage and this wire.

Hopefully the solenoid will look ok- many of them are rusty and the top starts to unseal and come apart. At that point, you may need a new one. They can also plug up with dirt. The orifice inside is very tiny.

If you replace a solenoid, be careful to totally clean the area on the side of the trans before taking anything apart. Do not let ANY dirt or grit get down into the transmission! Think of it as a medical operation, and keep it sterile. (The red fluid should help with this analogy!)

Good luck with it!
