Possible FAQ Tip, Blower Motor Resistor 700 1985

85 740gle. Blower worked fine on the way to work.(all speeds) Drove home, noticed no blower. Smelt something for a sec, turned off the switch. Figured motor bad after 22yrs. But figured check the fuse. I had already installed a fuseable link per the FAQs several yrs ago with evidence fuse 16 was melting the block. Looked at the link, completely melted down. Gotta be the motor. Pulled the motor, hooked 12volts direct and ran properly. Ok, resistor. Pulled the resistor, and found the black gooey stuff that comes out of the vents sometimes(mine occured several yrs back and cleaned per the FAQs). Saw the black stuff stuck to 2 wires. Figured being gooey, it probably could short out the resistor. Took a razor knife, scaped all the goo off. Plugged it up and ran like a champ. Held the wire for about 5 minutes running on high to make sure it didn't overheat again. Hope this helps someone else.
