Can i remove my A.C. compressor 200

My a.c. compressor has never worked. I don't really ever use a.c. Can I remo
ve the compressor and replace with a pulley assembly. This may seem unnecessary, but it would open up my engine compartment for easier servicing, and reduce weight a little, then maybe i'll get .001%improved mileage. Was there a 200 series ever w/o a.c.?thanks
