Stranded w/ Fuel Pump problems on 740 GL 4C 700 1990

Congratulations on winging it with that pump. I did one on my '93 and once was enough. It should be the the ONLY pump on that car, which is the right age ('89-'93) to have the Regina* FI system. It may also be the right age to need a new pump.

The best way to test pump pressure is with a real Fuel Pressure gauge connected to the Shraeder fitting on the injector rail. But a decent tire gauge on that same fitting will give you a good idea (and maybe some fuel spray till the gauge is on tight).

Normal idling pressure should be about 36psi. Pulling the vacuum hose off the Fuel Pressure (cap the open hose while it's off) will simulate Wide Open Throttle, and the pressure should rise to about 43psi.

* The 700/900 FAC tells how to ID a Regina system, but it's just as quick to follow the single wire from the distributor to the coil. If the coil isn't the typical cylinder-shape, the car has the Rex-Regina systems (Rex is the Ignition system).
