Boiled Down a little... 120-130

Thanks for the fast replies.

I went back out and took another go at it.
I realized that the linkage between the two carb was mal-adjusted. That helped a bit, but it reduces things back to my long-standing problem. the rearward carb gets *way* too much air - or something... *but* there is no obvious vacuum leak. Between the HIF6s and the HS6s, it seems that the rear carb comes up nearly un-adjustable. I can get it to idle smooth and mix/adjust properly, but it always runs fast. When I use my unisync, it is always sucking way more air than #1. Adjusting #1 to match always kicks the idle up to around 2000 rpms.

Just to be sure, I re-set my timing to 10 degrees BTC @ 900/1000 RPMs which had no real impact on the problem.

So, either I've got a carb coincidence or there is something wrong with the rear side of my engine/head/intake.

A vacuum leak makes sense, but I've tried a number of approaches to find one. This particular manifold is newer and was removed and replaced with new gaskets, it has never responded when I've sprayed carb cleaner/wd40 around the intake gasket. I've also physically inspected it a few times and believe that it is free of cracks and leaks.

There is only one vacuum fitting in this intake and it provides vacuum to the brake booster and hooks to the PCV valve. The valve is a B18 style and kinda old. Perhaps that's part of the problem?

So, I'm reduced to:

Coincidental problem with two carbs?
Butterfly issues (identical problem with two separate carbs?)
an issue with the head (same problem ?
and...
Vacuum leak - Manifold or PCV system?

I think it would help me a lot if I could find a separate intake. I have a couple of separate exhaust manifolds, but a separate intake might solve this problem or maybe narrow it down further. Anyone have one they'd like to sell?
