If you want to drive the car with the test coil, you should secure it somehow.
I normally put the test coil next to the existing coil, sometimes wrapping a long zip tie to hold the coils together.
Plug in the coil wire that goes between the coil tower and the distributor cap first.
Then connect the small wire from the dizzy to the "-" terminal on the coil.
And last, connect a jumper wire from the "+" terminal on the coil to the positive post on the battery, you will probably see a spark when you make this connection.(See below for alternative "+" hook up)
You can then try to start the car with the key.
Again, I must stress that to stop the engine when wired this way, you should pull the jumper wire off the positive battery terminal to avoid be zapped by the coil.
DO NOT PULL THE THICK COIL WIRE THAT GOES BETWEEN THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP THE COIL TOWER!!
You can alternatively hook you "+" jumper wire to the running light connection at the fuse box which is the 3rd fuse down, preferably on the side of the fusebox closest to the hood hinge.
I suggest you use a test light to confirm that this fuse will supply power from the headlight switch.
This way you when you pull the headlight switch to the running light position, you will supply power to the coil and then you use the ignition switch to start the engine.
You then can shut the engine off by pushing in the headlight switch.
