d-jet fun 140-160

after 280,000 miles my fuel injection pump is starting to leak, and has to go. original Bosch pumps are rare and crazy expensive. from what I have read so far, all the pump has to do is deliver fuel at pressure ( 40 p.s.i. ? ) and the regulator does the rest. Megasquirt says the '89 ish ford econoline or pick -up pump, ( $90.00 instead of $ 385.00 ) is a suitable in-line style. or, like an '87 v.w. Fox. I'm going to find out more about this, has anyone else tried anything like this yet ?
