UPDATE 120-130

I hooked up another 12V coil as per the helpful instructions. The car started, but coughed and spluttered, backfired loudly out of the exhaust, and nothing I did with the gas pedal would make it run smoothly. The choke/carbs side was absolutely fine before the coil played up.

What I would like to do is run it for 20 minutes to someone to change the coil, but I don't think I would get 100 yards at the moment. Do you know why the running is so bad? Would replacing the distributor and contents improve things at all?

I'm pleased because I managed to wire up the other coil and learned a bit more about how the car works, so thanks very much for the encouragement so far!

Tom
