You can start to check by doing this, with the car not moving, engine off, ignition in the on position, open the drivers door, listen closely out the door toward the ground as you press the OD button, you should hear a "Click" from under.

Also get it up to 45/50 MPH, at that speed when you push the button and the light comes on you should definitely drop down into third.
