Testing the 'other' fuel pump 200 1991

Sorry but I got confused along the way while reading the post. Straighten me out please. You said "I can hear the pump in the tank buzzing along nicely." "While I had the second fuel pump and filter assembly out I ran a couple of jumpers straight off the battery to the terminals on the 'other' pump and got nothing. Switched the wires around from negative to positive, still nada." Ok youhear the in-tank pump running. What are you refering to as the other pump, The main pump? If the main pump was not runing I doubt you would get much pressure to run the car any length of time. The prepump produces very little pressure and would not be sufficent to push any type of spray through the injectors. Anyway the symptoms sound more like the pre-pump than the main or high pressure pump. But if, as you said, you did apply voltage to the main pump and it did not run then that's the end of the discussion. By the way. Main pump,Yellow is + and black is -,Yellow turns into red/yellow to fuse #4. Pre-pump, Black is + (hot) and Brown is - or Ground. Black connects to yellow/red and runs also to fuse #4. Many pre-pump failures are due to corroded connections at the top of the sending unit at the bung nut which is usually covered with undercoating..Max:>)
