No differential inner axle seal? 1800 1972

I am attempting to replacing the rear wheel bearing on my 1972 1800E with the axle tag stamped: part # 255757 and fab. #100997? with a 4.30 ratio
After pulling the 1/2 shaft out of the diff. , I noticed there was no inner oil seal in the diff. housing on the car. How unusual.
I bought a wheel bearing kit 273872 and found out that the inner seal 38322 is a-bit too small to fit in the axle housing.
I can't locate the Volvo part number for this inner seal or why wasn't there a seal in this old car in the first place?
