maybe found source of odometer failings 200

i talked to the odometer gears guy on the phone some years back. he indicated to me that the idea that resetting the trip meter with the car moving is in no way connected to gear failure...that the two mechanisms are completely separate. according to him the source of the failure is the lubricant used on the gear being incompatible with the material the gear is made of....that over time it softens the gear material and poof! sort of like only using water based lubricants with condoms....this is a way simpler explanation. he suggested powdered graphite as a lubricant.
