Strange, brief hissing sound when coming off the gas pedal 700

86 740 turbo wagon. While driving with the windows down today, I noticed a strange hissing sound when I eased up off of the gas pedal. When I add throttle there is no sound. When the car is just coasting, there is no hissing sound. When I abruptly accelerate and release the gas pedal, there is a clear and distinct brief hissing sound (1-2 seconds) and it's definitely related. I checked the tops of the hoses and the connections (I'll hopefully get it up on a service station lift tomorrow to check underneath), but wanted to know if anyone had any similar experiences or ideas of where I might focus.

I appreciate any and all responses.
