On my 1993 945 (120k miles) I experienced some major hesitation/bogging of the engine upon acceleration, to the point where the RPMs would not go over 1000. I got a check engine light and pulled the codes. I had 2-2-1 (O2 sensor), 2-2-3 (IAC valve) and 1-3-2 (high/low voltage).
I cleaned both the throttle body and the IAC valve. That seems to have done the trick on the hesitation problem, as the car runs great again. But now, the car has developed a surging idle. At idle, it occillates from 500 to 700 rpm, once or twice per second. On acceleration and cruising, there is no noticeable problem. Furthermore, the surging idle occurs only about 70% of the time, and is independent from engine temperature.
In addition, the CEL is still coming on. One day it will come on and throw the 2-2-1, 2-2-3 and 1-3-2 codes. The next day, it will only throw the 2-2-1 code. I have not yet fixed the O2 sensor, because I can't get the damn thing off the car yet. PBlaster is not working its magic for me, apparently. I did check all of the connections.
So I need advice on the following:
1) Surging idle (does this mean I should just replace the IAC valve, which I think is original to the car? Or is there another cause?)
2) Intermittent codes (and what's up with the voltage code anyway? My voltage looks fine on my multimeter)
3) O2 sensor (clean or replace? Plus, is its demise somehow related to the IAC valve issue?)
4) Anything else I should check? Fuses, TPS(which seemed well-adjusted), ECU, etc.?
Thanks.
