Compatability of B23 engine in 82 242. 200 1982

Hi there,

I own a well cared for 1982 242 that is equipped with the original non-turbo B21 engine --- that was carefully rebuilt some years ago and now has about 50k on it. (I've been using Mobil One engine oil continuously after initial break-in). (My 82 B21 has an electronic ignition system with Chrysler white-cap distributor and is stock throughout).

I'm considering buying a 1985 240 GL (non-turbo) that has about 150k on it for the M46 transmission. The transmission appears to be in good shape and the owner had the car serviced from late 1985 at an excellent local independent Volvo shop.

The question is: Is the B23 engine in the 85 GL fully compatible with my 82? If not, how does it differ from the set up in the 82 that would involve retrofitting? Thanks.

Regards, Dave
