My Volvo is a 1997 965. Just this past week I was in the Dealer's Body Shop to learn what was needed to repair damage to the RF corner of that front spoiler strip.
Actually, I call that bottom strip on the bumper the "Sacrificial strip". New ones run around $167.00. BTW, the car doesn't look too bad without it.
Damage happened when wife did a U-turn in a cul-de-sac, RF tire did not get close to the curb which would have rised the bumper, but the S-Strip hit the dense weeds growing behind the curb. Pushed the s-strip such that the part wrapping the corner stuck out, the part along the front pushed in a little.
Went to dealer and looked at their part indntifying computer screen and saw that I needed 5 clips to re-attach the s-strip.
Then I noticed that the part of the front bumper that ends at the RF wheel well was hanging down about 1/4-inch. Oh Oh. It was loose. The parts picture showed the bumper but nothing about it is hald on to the body.
Body shop quoted $76 to fix, if the inside plastic tabs on the bumper were not broken off. I agreed, they fixed it, and I watched. Next time is DIY.
The bumper came off really fast. Pull the wiper arms and wash fliud tube off both sides, wrap them with tape so the hole in the bumper they fit through will allow them to slip through.
Get under and disconnect the corner lights, if you have them. They had the RF up on a floor jack! Not recommended. Scissors jack better, jack stand is best.
While underneath you will see how it is held. There may be bolts, not sure.
Look at the tabs, on the very end of the bumper and they pop into holes in the mount bracket. Once out the bumper can be slid off frontwards out of the tracks it fits into on each side.
Once off, the S-Strip is easy. Takes 16 clips for the whole job. I was lucky that the strip was not all the way off. Would have messed up the corner lights royally.
Your S-Strip was not originally glued on, it was held with 16 pretty thick and strong clips.
Installation is the reverse of removal, using common sense along the way.
Whether you can do the job yourself or not depends on your time and space available, and the condition on the attaching surfaces.
Good Luck,
Bob
