I'm not convinced that the newer gasoline powered cars get significantly better mileage.

For example, in today's Toronto Sun, they have an article about the new 2007 VW Rabbit. 2.5 liter inline 5 cyl has 150 hp. With a 5 speed manual it gets 10.7 liters/100 km city and 7.2 liters/100 km hwy. No mention of real world city-hwy fuel consumption.

That translates to 9.3 km/l city (100/10.7) and 13.9 km/l hwy. In mileage that works out to 22 mpg city (9.3 divided by 1.6km/mi times 3.78l/gal) and 32.8 mpg hwy.

Considering that the Rabbit is a smaller car (I don't know its weight), should we be complaining about our 240s mileage?
