If all else seems open I would suspect the oil separator as you suggest. You can put any hose that fits on the opening the flame trap tube connects to and blow into it. If the oil cap is off you should have unrestricted air flow through the oil separator. Even a bit of restriction seems to be enough to blow seals out.

While at the dealer getting the dipstick Oring and oil separator you should probably also pick up the Oring that goes between the separator and the block, the one in there now will be toast.
