164 springs / headgasket 140-160

2 questions really.

Firstly, wondering if rear springs from a '74 will fit the earlier cars (1970)? I'm not in front of my parts lists now.

Also, wondering how much fun a head gasket change will be on a FI 164. Anything to look out for? I've promised a guy I'd take a 1973 off his hands but he says the head gasket is starting to go. I'm debating whether to drive it a few hundred miles home and hope for the best but be prepared for a head-gasket change along the way.
