Best Volvo For Fuel Ecoonomy?

Just intested in getting the opinion of the board on a question of mine. I am a volvo mechanic and have signifigant experince repairing these cars, but have not driven too many of them for extended periods of time. I currently have a 85 245 TIC (for sale... hint hint...) which I bought to be my daily driver, but have become frustrated due to it getting low fuel milage. (under 20 mpg) Speaking with some other friends, this seems to be common, but my question is then, what would get the best milage?

My criteria...

Must be a volvo, and for the sake of the discussion, let us exclude diesels. (I would love to have a small diesel rig, but am not terribly fond of the vw motor, and diesels are rare and $$$$ out here)

Needs to be reaonably priced. Probably under $5000, and additionally I do not think i would want anything newer than an 850. (more complex and more $$) I will not restrict it to just 850's if someone has an agrument for some other newer model, as long as it can be gotten reasonably cheaply.

Probably will be a wagon for cargo capacity.

So, any suggestions?
Thnaks ~ John
