Finally Passed NJ Emissions Test Today 200

Hello. Finally passed NJ emissions test Today. Big thanks to advice and help from Brickboard. Here is complete information which others will hopefully find to be helpful : 1987 sedan automatic 120,000 miles, Catalytic converter only 2x years old, no leaks anywhere.
Test #1 3/22/07 NOx : Standard : 1227 Reading : 2520
HC : Standard : 162 Reading : 23
CO% : Standard : 0.91 Reading : 0.01

Failed As NOx was way too high. So filled up with high octane gas instead of my usual regular and removed and plugged up vacuum hose to ignition controler.

Test #2 3/29/07 NOx Reading : 1740
HC Reading : 14
CO% Reading : 0.14

Although NOx was lower it was still too high so still failed. Removed and plugged up vacuum hose to fuel regulator.

Test #3 3/30/07 NOx Reading : 1208
HC Reading : 53
CO% Reading : 0.33

Passed !! Removing & plugging hose to ignition controler wasn't enough but in combination with removing & plugging hose to fuel regulator did the trick. With my '86 for emissions inspection about 1 1/2 years ago removing & plugging ignition control hose did the trick to the tune of over 1200 points as I recall yet this time with '87 only brought it down 780 points. Removing & plugging fuel regulator hose was good for bringing it down 532 points. Guess to sum up here maybe best thing to do is remove & plug both hoses.

Final question : Should I leave both these vacuum hoses removed and plugged up(car runs fine/same as when they were hooked up)or should I reconnect them ??

Thanks to all for your kind help with this matter.
