Crank gear removal tips PLEASE. 200

Finally it's warm enough for me to be out there working on the timing belt and seal change out project.
I have the two top gears off, but I'm stumped my the bottom one. I can see it's keyed on there and it also seems pretty frozen. Bummer. I can see that the seal behind that gear has been leaking too.
Is the idea to pull the little square key out first? How does one get a grip on that little nub?
I have a puller that would fit but only if I kind of bend that washer back in three spots to fit the puller. I don't really like that idea.
