Head gasket 200

The past week or so the boxy lady (1986 244GL) has been lack luster in the power dept. I had this problem about 6 months back and it turned out to be the head gasket. I figured well every 300K I guess one should have it replaced.
It had the garage around the block from me do it since I have no garage or driveway to do such a project. So six months later low power and a bit of oil in the anti-freeze. I haven't tested the compression yet but I fear the results. So what would cause 2 head gaskets to give out in 6 months its never over heated nor is it being used as a rally racer just a 40 mile daily commute
Thanks for any sugestions
