About a month or so ago I bought a 1988 740 GLE {$400)with transmission problem,no working AC/heater blower motor and a sagging headliner. Otherwise car is in great shape.
By luck I found this site and want to say thanks. By reading here, found that the trans was a ZF which was trouble prone and that the AW-70 was a superior trans. So I found a used AW-70 in Atlanta for $450 with drive shafts, oil lines, linkage and cross brace. Trans shop charged $250 to change out. Working great.
Also read about the problem with fuse #16, found the slot burned as indicated here, and just now replaced with a fuse linkage as per the wonderful instructions and AC/heater blower work fine.
Oh, another thing...apparantly the left tail light assembly had recently been replaced and the comparison between the shine of the new left and the old right was tremendous. Read here about using clear coat on the old light assembly and after applying two coats, you can barely tell the difference.
I haven't yet dealt with the headliner problem yet, but can get it done locally for $285 although with the instructions posted here, I can probable do it myself.
Thanks...James
