Shift Lever Problem - 240 - Automatic 200 1991

Good Morning to the denizens of the Brickboard !

The 1991 244 B230F Auto Transmission (AW71?) shifter lever will not go into any of the gears except for Park, Reverse, Neurtral & Drive.

The Button on top does not seem to be either engaging or releasing the "lock?" mechanism ?

So, every once in a while while driving out here on the dirt/mud back roads the shifter "pops" out of gear and into Neutral..

I just slide the shifter into Drive and all is well. But, I can not the shifter to go down onto 2 or 1 Low.

Any ideas for me to look at ?

I took tis car on a maiden voyage yesterday and it was really nice ! I was impressed. This week I'll move the 15" Draco wheels and tires onto it - fix the one burned out rlaml in the center dash console and then inspect the brakes ! I am really really liking this little buzz mobile, even if it does corner ande handle like Spruance Class Destroyer....

Cousin John
