142S wiper issues 140-160

Jeff,
I had the same issues with my 71 142e. I had a really hard time finding the right motor for it. I believe that if your car is 72 or older, you will have the same problem. First, when I tried to buy this at a standard parts store, they always asked if I have "Electrolux" or "SWF". I looked at the existing unit but did not see a name- perhaps mine had already been replaced.
I had no idea which one I needed, but Autozone claims to carry them both but of course they want $90 each. I do not know if I even trust that theirs would be correct. www.vlvworld.com does not have them either.
I bought one from somebody on ebay for short money- not really even knowing which type it was. When I took the old one apart and started testing it, the 90 degree gear was stripped. The motor was fine and was making a noise, but the “worm gear” was toasted.
I put the whole “used” ebay unit back in the car and it works great.

I would bet that the worm drive in the motor is shot, and the linkage is fine. I lubed the linkage after putting the new motor in. I put PB blaster on the links and ran for 10 minutes. Afterward, I wiped the PB off and put lithium spray grease on afterward.

thanks,

jeremy
