Life-Span & Proper Maintenance of a Turbo in a 1984 242. Suggestions & Estimates? 200 1984

Hey Guys,

I had a couple of questions about the expected life-span and maintenance schedule for an original Turbo in very well maintained 1984 242, that has lived it's life entirely on the west coast (San Jose, CA. area). These questions are:

1) How long should such a turbo last if it is well maintained? The turbo in question is mounted on the stock 1984 242 engine (B230?), now with about 215k on it.

2)Is there a major maintenance that should be undertaken on this turbo that will extend its lifespan or should we anticipate that it's time to think finding a new or remanufactured one?

3)If this turbo needs replacing any suggestions about whether to go with the stock replacement or an upgrade? (Reliability is more important than signficant increase in performance.) Thanks.

Regards, Dave
