worrysome thump in suspension 200 1989

brickboard,

i suspect my 1989 240dl sedan is having some suspension problems. the problem is that it mades a bad thumping sound when i go over bumps. sounds almost like the suspension is coming off the unibody. seems most of the sound is fron the rear but i cant be sure.

it has new struts and shocks so i think we can rule those components out.

i have taken a quick look under the front and rear and can see nothing glaring although i know the trailing arm bushings are about gone.

any ideas on what my problem may be and how to confirm it? i know a friend once explained how to use a 2x4 to check suspension components.

any help is appreciated. thanks.
