82 degree thermostat OK for 940 turbo?

Well... I took out the old thermostat and found that it was (physically) broken! one of the 'arms' that connects the outer ring to the thermostat body was snapped.

The new thermostat that I received from Groton is rated at 82 degrees, and the old one was rated at 87.
I'm assuming that it's OK, but will this throw off the temp reading on the console or something? (I'm preparing to raise the boost and hp, so I figuured cooler is better?)

Also, I'm installing a new water pump annd jjust want to check something. Does the O ring for the heater pipe go at the end of the pipe? Or does it go around the pipe?

thanks.
