Here's something you may already know. I thought I'd pass it along in case you don't. And I don't remember it being discussed in the Bentley. It's a small thing, but once I figured it out fooling with the parking brake shoes became much simpler. (If you've read my earlier posts, you may have gathered that I've had the opportunity to use this procedure a lot lately.)

When you're pulling off the brakes, you slacken the cable first (from the rear, under the console through the rear ashtray), then remove the shoes. There are two springs to remove.

Here's the step that made this part go easier for me: Remove only the longer one, the one which joins the shoes at the cable lever. Leave the shorter one in place and slide the joined shoes off, in the direction directly away from the cable lever, widening them as needed for clearance. The easy part comes during re-installation: you only have the longer spring to stretch into place and it's easier to do while holding the other side--already assembled--in place.
